Asset Protection

What is Asset Protection?

Language in a Trust intended to protect the assets you leave to your beneficiaries from being attached in a lawsuit or taken in a divorce. This can be a critical piece of the plan, as it ensures bloodline protection and cares for your children, in particular, in a way that you would have tried to do during life.

Walking Away with a Good Hand Before It's Too Late

All of us work hard to build our financial security, so that we can protect our families from life’s hardships, yet we often fail to anticipate the unforeseen problems that can threaten our efforts.   Our job, as your attorneys, is to plan for the “what ifs” that you may not have thought of yet, so you don’t have to.”

At Estate Planning Law Center, we know most of our clients have a strong desire to protect their privacy as well as their assets.  Ensuring your wishes and desires are properly and completely addressed is our mission. For more than 30 years, the attorneys at EPLC have helped people in Connecticut protect their assets while creating and protecting their legacy for the next generation.  EPLC crafts real plans for real people, and we achieve real results.

Finally, we assist in effectively transferring assets upon death through Wills, Trusts, Domestic Asset Protection Trusts, and other Irrevocable Trusts. We periodically hold public and private seminars on a variety of financial topics to both the public and financial professionals.

Do I Need a Domestic Asset Protection Trust (DAPT)?

Domestic Asset Protection Trust is an irrevocable Trust established in another state (often Wyoming or Alaska) which has superior asset protection laws. Often permits the Grantor to obtain asset protection for himself as well as for beneficiaries, which is not possible under Connecticut Law. DAPT addresses disability, transfer of assets upon death, and offers asset protection for both the Grantor and the Survivors.
